Police enforcement of the BC Supreme Court injunction order in the Fairy Creek Watershed area continued today on September 23, 2021, with ongoing efforts to keep the Granite Mainline Forest Service Road and other corridors free from any obstructions, devices and open for industry access.
Earlier in the morning, during active patrols in the area, police encountered several occupied tents in the middle of the forestry road. Despite efforts to negotiate with the group, some refused to clear the roadway, resulting in the arrest of 4 individuals, without incident, for breaching the injunction (contempt of court). The individuals also refused to bring their camping equipment with them after being arrested, and so were removed from the area by the RCMP and turned over to industry. They were processed and released.
One individual was later arrested for breaching the injunction (contempt of court), after being removed from a locking device on the ground. This individual was also processed and then released.
Two others who were located at a nearby encampment and refused to leave the area, were arrested for obstruction and later released.
Since enforcement began, the RCMP have arrested 1089 individuals; 110 of whom were previously arrested with a combined total of 261 times. Of the total arrested, 855 were for breaching the injunction (contempt of court), 201 were for obstruction, 16 were for mischief, 6 were for breaching their release conditions, 6 were for assaulting a police officer, 2 were for failing to comply with a court order, 1 for counselling to resist arrest, 1 for causing a disturbance, and 1 Immigration Act.
