Suspicious vehicle leads to MVA tickets:

A Kitimat RCMP officer was dispatched to attend a business located along Highway 37 near the intersection of Forest Ave for a suspicious vehicle on April 18th. The officer attended and located the vehicle. The driver was unable to produce their valid British Columbia Drivers licences and did not have an N on the vehicle, resulting in a violation ticket being issued.

Single vehicle collision:

On April 18th, at 9:35 pm, the Kitimat RCMP was dispatched to a single vehicle rollover on Minette Bay Rd. The Kitimat RCMP officer arrived and found the vehicle rolled over with airbags deployed. Luckily there was no injuries to the persons that were in the vehicle. The driver provided a breath sample and it was found they had consumed alcohol before driving, resulting in a 24-hour driving prohibition.

Intoxicated in public:

A report of a male passed out on a walking path behind the 700 block of Lahakas Blvd was received by the Kitimat RCMP on April 19th, at 7:35pm. The Officer was able to locate the male and it was found they were intoxicated. As a result, he was arrested for causing a disturbance by being intoxicated in public and lodged in the Kitimat RCMP cells, being released without charge once sober. (2024-1342).

Found clothing:

A report of clothing strewn on highway 37, near Hirsh Creek park was received by the Kitmat RCMP on April 20th. The Kitimat RCMP officer responding located a large amount of clothing and seized the items. It appears that the clothing should not be garbage and someone may be missing it. If you are missing this clothing, or know who is, and can identify the items, please contact the Kitimat RCMP at 250-632-7111 and site file number 2024-1350.

Vessel checks:

On April 20th between 11:00 am and 1:00 pm, Officers from the Kitimat RCMP preformed vessel checks at a local marina. A total of six vessels were checked with the officers ensuring that the boat operators had the appropriate documentation and safety equipment. Two vessels were compliant, three vessels had improper Hull Identification Numbers and several vessels had expired equipment including flares and fire extinguishers. One operator was unable to produce the vessels registration papers and their vessel operators permit. The Kitimat RCMP would like to remind all boaters to ensure they have their watercraft properly prepared and they are safe while navigating the Douglas Channel.

Cyclist Collision:

A vehicle and bicycle were reported to have collided at the intersection of Albatross Ave and Lahakas Blvd at 9:42 pm on April 21st. The investigating officer attended and discovered that the cyclist and motorist both stopped, but did not make eye contact, resulting in both leaving the intersection at the same time, then colliding. The cyclist was taken to a local hospital for minor injuries. No charges were laid in this incident. (2024-1371)

Possible identity fraud attempt:

A local resident contacted the Kitimat RCMP to report an attempt that someone may have made to steal their identity. It was reported that a bank account was opened in the complainant’s name, however the name was spelled slightly differently. A money transfer was attempted; however, it was caught by the bank and stopped. Thankfully no money was lost in this incident. Information was provided to the complainant for watching their credit rating to ensure no further fraudulent transactions are found. (2024-1397)
