Theft from vehicle leads to cheque fraud

On Saturday, January 11, 2025, at 9:22 a.m. a frontline Trail and Greater District RCMP officer received a report from a 75-year-old Cranbrook man about his cheque book being stolen from his vehicle in Cranbrook, BC. An unknown suspect had cashed his cheques in the amount of $2955 at local financial institutions in Trail, BC.

The matter remains under investigation.

Overall, theft from vehicles in the Trail and Greater District is down to very low levels. Please make sure you continue to lock your vehicles and secure your personal items, says Sgt. Wicentowich
