The North Cowichan Duncan Detachment completed two hundred hours of extra patrols around our schools and in our corridor area due to funding from the Special Investigations & Targeted Enforcement (SITE) Program, part of BC’s Safer Communities Action Plan.
As part of this project, 52 individuals were arrested and 40 individuals were charged with various criminal offences. An additional 15 warrants were able to be executed and over 20 violation tickets were issued. Through this project, four illegal guns, hundreds of rounds of ammunition, numerous knives, and a baton were seized as well as large quantities of fentanyl and methamphetamine. Two stolen vehicles were recovered during these patrols.
"Funding support provided by the SITE program made it possible for North Cowichan Duncan RCMP to make significant arrests and seizures of drugs and weapons over he last 12 months. The resulting disruption in drug trafficking and associated violence in our community has had an important impact on the safety and security of our citizens said Staff Sergeant Ken Beard, acting detachment commander for the North Cowichan/Duncan RCMP.
