File # 2024
On Wednesday August 21, 2024 officers assigned to SITE (Special Investigation Targeted Enforcement) wrapped up a short-term enforcement campaign targeting a specific area in downtown Nanaimo that is experiencing ongoing pressure from criminal elements. The area of their focus was Wesley St and the surrounding area.
Throughout the day, officers monitored the area. As a result, their observations lead to a number of criminal and provincial investigations. The following are a few highlights from their combined efforts:
During the 4 -5 hours of targeted enforcement officers seized and additional 14 grams of methamphetamine (140 doses) and 90 grams fentanyl (900 doses). Many of these investigations are only in the preliminary stages and as a result names and specific details cannot be released at this time. However this operation does provide a realistic snap shot of the ongoing criminality associated with street level drug usage in this area. It is also a reminder that consistent police presence is required to maintain a semblance or order on our streets, said R/Cst Gary O'Brien of the Nanaimo RCMP.
