Police seek to identify suspect in theft of bike

The Nanaimo RCMP is asking for the public’s assistance identifying the individual shown in the attached video and photos. It is alleged that at approximately 4 PM on Friday July 4, 2025, the suspect approached two youths sitting outside MacDonald's restaurant, located at 1835 Bowen Road. As the suspect nears, he is seen on the attached video throwing a cup of water and then a jacket at one of the youth. He then grabs one of their bikes and takes off with it. The youths chase for a short distance but wisely stopped after the suspect allegedly uttered threats at them. The suspect was last seen heading towards Dufferin Street. Officers carried out extensive patrols for the bike and suspect but were unable to locate them.

Video description: At 3:44 PM on July 4, 2025 suspect approaches youths, throws a cup of water and jacket at them then grabs bike and takes off, being chased by the youths.

 

A photo of the bike, described as a bright orange Devinci, was disseminated to all front-line officers. 

On the afternoon of July 7, 2025, a patrol officer was flagged down by an individual with a bike. The officer confirmed the bike in question was the stolen Devinci and took possession of it. That night, the bike’s owner attended to the Nanaimo detachment and gratefully had it returned to him.

The suspect remains unidentified. He is clearly shown in the attached video and is described as a Caucasian man, 40-45 years old, medium build and sporting a goatee. He was wearing a black t-shirt with HONDA on the front, dark baseball cap and blue jeans.
