Ding-dong ditch
On Friday, August 16, 2024, at 11:16 p.m. a frontline Trail and Greater RCMP officer received a report about a group of rambunctious youth playing Ding Dong Ditch in the 1800 block of Columbia Gardens Road, in Fruitvale, BC.

A witness believed that approximately 15 youths were believed to be involved in the game. Police patrolled the area; however, the youth had dissipated.

On Saturday, August 17, at 1:22 a.m. frontline Trail and Greater District RCMP officers responded to a report that two men has sustained gunshot wounds after they were dropped off at the Kootenay Boundary Regional Hospital, in Trail.
A 45-year-old Langley man and a 40-year-old Surrey man were in critical condition upon arrival. Both men were stabilized by medical staff and are expected to survive their injuries.
Southeast District General Investigation Section is assisting Trail officers with the investigation. The investigation is ongoing.

On Sunday, August 18, 2024, at 3:24 p.m. a frontline Trail and Greater District RCMP officer responded to a report of single motor vehicle incident on Highway 3B near Rossland, BC.
A 42-year-old Warfield man and his passenger sustained injuries after he crashed his vehicle on the highway. The vehicle was heavily damaged and the airbags deployed. Both he and his passenger were treated by BC EHS.
Speed and the driver’s condition and attentiveness were believed to be factors in the crash. During the officer’s investigation, she located approximately 1.75 kilograms of a substance believed to be Cocaine, $1500, and cell phones inside the crashed vehicle.
The officer arrested the 42-year-old Warfield man for Possession of a Controlled Substance for the Purpose of Trafficking contrary to Section 5(2) of the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act. The man was released by the officer at scene. He and his passenger were transported to the Kootenay Boundary Regional Hospital for additional medical treatment.
The matter remains under investigation. The investigator will forward a report to Crown Counsel recommending criminal charges.
