Police, civilian, rescue person in river

Kamloops City

2025-04-28 15:11 PDT

File # 2025-12477

The quick response of two police officers and a boater, led to a woman being safely pulled from the water last night.

On Sunday, April 28, 2025, around 8:30 p.m., Kamloops RCMP Detachment frontline officers were called to an area near Riverside Park East, where a woman who appeared in emotional distress was in the water under the train bridge.

When police arrived on scene, they called out to the woman, but she did not engage and instead, began to float downstream, said Corporal Crystal Evelyn, Kamloops RCMP Detachment spokesperson. Fortunately, they were able to quickly flag down a civilian in a jet boat, who took them out to where the woman was floating, further into the main current.

The officers pulled the woman out of the river and into the boat as soon as they were close enough. She was apprehended under the Mental Health Act and taken to hospital for assessment and care.
One of the officers received minor injuries during the rescue, but is expected to fully recover.

The Kamloops RCMP Detachment is thankful to the civilian who was able to assist and help prevent the situation from becoming tragic.
