Fatal motor vehicle collision

On July 12th, 2023, at 12:36 p.m., the Revelstoke RCMP responded to a serious two-vehicle motor vehicle collision, which had occurred approximately 5 kms west of Three Valley Lake on Highway 1. Police and BC Ambulance attended a located two vehicle fully engulfed in flames. It was determined two victims were deceased, and three people were receiving first aid from bystanders. The injured were taken to hospital by BC Ambulance, while on patient was airlifted. Revelstoke Fire Services attended to suppress the fire. An RCMP Collision Analyst along with the BC Coroners Service attended.

The cause of the collision remains unknown at this time. The investigation is ongoing.

Two off-duty Calgary Police Service officers, along with a BC Sherriff, witnessed the collision occur, and sprang into action to pull three victims from one of the vehicles prior to it being fully engulfed in flames, says Sgt. Chris Dodds, Revelstoke Detachment Commander. It was an absolute display of bravery by these career first responders.

The highway was completely closed in both directions.
