Today marks the beginning of National Police Week – a seven-day public awareness campaign that encourages increased awareness and connection between police and the communities they serve.
This year, we recognize the oath officers proudly take to be committed to serve communities who want and expect the police to keep them safe.
committed to serve
National Police Week calls upon us to reflect on our sacred duty – to serve and protect with diligence, compassion, and integrity. Here in Richmond, public trust is the cornerstone of the community we build together, each day, every day, says Chief Superintendent Dave Chauhan, Officer in Charge of Richmond RCMP.

Richmond RCMP’s policing approach is characterized by specialized units working in concert to ensure the safety and well-being of the community.
Frontline Officers are the bedrock of our service, responding to calls day and night, and ensuring public safety 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
Our Community Engagement Team builds strong bonds with the people we serve, focusing on awareness, education, and dialogue. They are complemented by our Vulnerable Persons Unit, which works collaboratively with community stakeholders to develop long-term strategies that foster safety stability for individuals within the complex landscape of mental health challenges, substance use, and related vulnerabilities, and also by the work of our Youth Section, which epitomizes proactive engagement by mentoring young people, fostering pro-social behaviours, supporting the delivery of school drug prevention programs, Youth Academy, and implementing early intervention strategies to support youth at risk.
Our Investigative Services section, comprised of Major Crime and Organized Crime, exemplifies our commitment to innovative and strategic law enforcement. These elite units, through meticulous investigations and the integration of advanced forensic technologies, deliver a robust response to serious crimes that deeply impact our community. Their unwavering dedication has led to the disruption of organized criminal networks and the resolution of complex cases.
Together, these units exemplify the dedication and service that Richmond RCMP embodies.
We also recognize the contributions of our numerous volunteers, Block Watch, and Auxiliary Constables towards the collective goal of keeping our community safe.

Public safety involves a collaborative effort within police agencies, between police services, and between the police, other first responders, social and community services, as well as residents. This week, Richmond RCMP renews its oath to be #CommittedToServe the citizens in our community as we work together towards a better and safer future for all.
