BC Highway Patrol & CVSE team up for Vancouver Island passenger transportation check

The RCMP and BC’s Commercial Vehicle Safety & Enforcement (CVSE) Officers are working together to make sure that taxis, ride-hail vehicles and other professional people-movers are safe and legal.

On June 19 and 20, 2025, the BC Highway Patrol Integrated Road Safety Unit (IRSU) partnered with Ministry of Transportation and Transit CVSE Officers to conduct a joint passenger transportation enforcement check at Victoria’s Ogden Point Cruise Ship Terminal.

This check targeted taxis and other passenger-directed vehicles, resulting in the following major violations identified:

BC Highway Patrol values the expertise of CVSE, says Sergeant Jereme Leslie with BC Highway Patrol IRSU. Together, our organizations can deliver highly effective education and enforcement for taxis, ride-hail, and other commercial vehicles on Vancouver Island highways.

IRSU remains committed to collaborating with enforcement partners like CVSE to help ensure the safety of passengers who use commercial vehicles, as well as the regulatory compliance of drivers who operate them.
