Disturbance leads to foot chase and alleged assault on police officer

On Tuesday, October 29, 2024, at 11:44 p.m. frontline Trail and Greater District RCMP officers responded to a report of a 40-year-old Trail man who was allegedly causing a disturbance outside a residence in the 400 block of Buckna Street, in Trail, BC. The man was reported to be armed with a knife, intoxicated by alcohol and had an outstanding unendorsed warrant for his arrest.

When the first officer arrived on scene, she observed the man attempting to start a motorcycle and flee. The officer quickly intervened and placed the man under arrest. As she approached the man, he allegedly assaulted her and attempted to then flee on foot. The officer, with the assistance of two additional officers who had arrived at the scene, subdued the man a short time later.

The officers took the man into custody. He later appeared before a judge and was detained into custody.

Trail RCMP will submit a report to Crown Counsel requesting approval of criminal charges related to the incident.

Unlicensed driver fined, car towed

On Saturday, November 2, 2024, at 10:19 p.m. a frontline Trail and Greater District RCMP officer was patrolling in a marked police vehicle when he observed a vehicle driving erratically on Bay Avenue, in downtown Trail, BC. The officer conducted a query on the licence plate and discovered that the vehicle was allegedly uninsured. The officer detained the vehicle roadside.

The officer identified the 24-year-old Trial man who was driving the vehicle and used a police computer to confirm that he was an unlicensed driver in BC.

The 24-year-old Trail man was issued a driving prohibition and a $81 fine for Fail to Produce Insurance contrary to Section 33(1) of the BC MVA. His vehicle was impounded for up to 7 days.

Vehicle with defects impounded, driver fined

On Sunday, November 3, 2024, at 1:00 a.m. a frontline Trail and Greater District RCMP officer was patrolling in a marked police vehicle when he observed a vehicle prohibited from operating on the road due to defects being driven on Bay Avenue, in downtown Trail, BC. The officer detained the vehicle roadside.

The officer spoke to the 54-year-old Trail man driving the vehicle and who was aware of the defects but had not fixed them. The officer issued a Notice and Order which resulted in the vehicle being removed immediately from the road. The driver became irate and thoroughly verbally berated the officer during the incident.

The officer issued the 54-year-old Trail man a $598 fine for Fail to Comply with Order contrary to Section 25.30(4) of the BC Motor Vehicle Act and Regulations, $109 fine for Tinted Windows contrary to Section 7.05(8) of the BC MVAR, $230 fine for Improper Display of Plate contrary to Section 3.02 of the BC MVAR, $81 fine for Unauthorized Lamps contrary to Section 4.02(1) BC MVAR, and $109 fine for Fail to Change Address contrary to Section 31(1) of the BC Motor Vehicle Act.

Trail woman detained for impaired driving, licence suspended, vehicle impounded

On Sunday, November 3, 2024, at 1:46 p.m. a frontline Trail and Greater District RCMP officer received a report that a 33-year-old Trail woman was inside her vehicle which was on top of a cement barricade near the intersection of Glover Road and McAnally Street, in Trail, BC.
The officer attended the scene and located the woman. She appeared to be uninjured at the time of the incident. The woman claimed to be eating fries and distracted by the ringing of her phone at the time of driving when she crashed into the barricade.

The officer believed the woman’s ability to operate a motor vehicle may be impaired by alcohol. A demand was read to the woman who provided a sample of breath roadside that resulted in a fail.
The 33-year-old Trail woman was issued a 90-day Immediate Roadside Prohibition (IRP) under Section 215 of the BC Motor Vehicle Act. Her vehicle was impounded for up to 30 days.

Unlicensed driver issued prohibition, vehicle impounded

On Sunday, November 3, 2024, at 9:58 p.m. a frontline Trail and Greater District RCMP officer was patrolling in a marked police vehicle when he observed a vehicle with a broken tail light cover and an insecure load driving on Pine Avenue, in downtown Trail, BC.

The officer observed the vehicle park outside a business in the 700 block of Victoria Street. The driver and passenger exited the vehicle, and returned a short time later.

The officer used a police computer to confirm that the 58-year-old Salmo man driving the vehicle was an unlicensed driver in BC. The pair spotted the officer and his vehicle and appeared to become nervous. They sat in the parked vehicle for nearly an hour until a third person arrived on scene to drive it away from the parking lot. The officer detained three people and vehicle roadside once they left the parking lot.

The officer issued the 58-year-old Salmo man a driving prohibition and his vehicle was impounded for up to 7 days.

Trail and Greater District 3rd Quarter Crime Statistics

3rd Quarter of 2024:

Impaired driving charges were up from 15 to 18.
Total calls for service were up 7% when compared to the 3rd Quarter of 2023.
