Firearm trafficking investigation leads to numerous charges

A successful firearms trafficking investigation had lead to 18 criminal charges laid against a Dawson Creek man.

Travis West, age 43 has been charged with 13 counts of illegally transferring a firearm, possession of a firearm with a tampered serial number, possession of a prohibited firearm with ammunition and 3 counts of unsafe storage of a firearm.

During the course of the investigation police conducted a search warrant at a related residence. During the search warrant police seized numerous firearms including a prohibited shotgun and a firearm with a scratched off serial number along with numerous rounds of ammunition. Several of the firearms were stored haphazardly with ammunition.

Throughout the investigation into Travis’ activities police have discovered several firearms belonging to him have been used by others in numerous violent criminal offences in the Peace Region.

The Dawson Creek RCMP would like to remind the public to report illegal firearm, ammunition and weapon activity to police.
