Lake Cowichan RCMP is investigating a shooting incident which resulted in one man injured.
On January 28, 2024, shortly before 11:00 p.m., Lake Cowichan RCMP responded to a residence on South Shore Rd for a report of a man who sustained a gunshot wound. Police responded to the area with the assistance of the Vancouver Island RCMP Emergency Response Unit (ERT), Police Dog Services (PDS) and arrested a 52-year-old suspect without further incident. The 23-year-old victim, was transported to hospital with serious injuries.
Investigators are now working diligently in order to piece together the circumstances prior that led up to the shooting, including the relation between the suspect and the victim said Corporal Alex Bérubé, spokesperson for the RCMP in British Columbia. While the investigation remains in its infancy, there is no further perceived risk to the public as the lone suspect remains in custody.
