Police dog tracks down repeat offender

Quesnel

2024-12-17 09:50 PST

File # 2024-10778

A violent repeat offender was apprehended after a lengthy dog track.

On December 16, 2024, at approximately 4:44 p.m., the Quesnel RCMP received a report of a stolen vehicle. At approximately 5:27 p.m., police located the stolen vehicle with the driver still in it, parked in the Wal-Mart parking lot. Police attempted to apprehend the driver who then accelerated forward striking the police vehicle and fleeing at a high rate of speed through a crowded parking lot.

The vehicle was later reported to have gone off the road in Kersley and the driver had fled on foot. Police Dog Services out of Prince George attended and conducted a lengthy track of the suspect. The suspect was located barricaded in a shed. The 30-year-old man was taken into custody after a brief struggle.

The suspect is well known to police. He was recently released on conditions for a similar offence that required electronic monitoring but was found to be breaching his conditions as he removed his ankle monitor shortly after being release, says Sgt. Clay Kronebusch.

Quesnel RCMP are looking to talk to anyone that may have witnessed or has video or dash cam footage from the interaction in the Wal-Mart Parking lot. Please contact the Quesnel RCMP at 250-992-9211.
