Downtown garbage fires reported

Kamloops City

2025-05-05 12:21 PDT

File # 2025-13395

Police are asking the public to be on the lookout for garbage-can fire starters, following a series of small blazes discovered this weekend.

On Monday May 5, 2025, around 12:45 a.m., the Kamloops RCMP Detachment received reports of multiple garbage can fires located on the 300-block of Seymour Street and 500-block of Victoria Street. Police officers patrolled the area for suspects, while Kamloops Fire and Rescue dealt with the flames.

A person of interest was allegedly observed in the area, described as a Caucasian man who had long hair with red highlights, was wearing dark clothing, and holding a pair of ski boots, said Corporal Crystal Evelyn, Kamloops RCMP Detachment spokesperson. Officers would like to speak with the person and are hoping they will come forward or be identified by a member of the public.

No extensive damage was reported. Anyone with information related to these occurrences is asked to please contact the Kamloops RCMP Detachment at 250-828-3000 and reference file 2025-13395.
