File # 2024-5614, 2024-5624, 2024-5668
The Sea to Sky RCMP is urging all drivers to exercise increased caution on the Sea to Sky Highway following a series of motor vehicle incidents over the recent long weekend. With heavy traffic flow in both directions, officers responded to several incidents between Squamish and Whistler, resulting in significant delays and minor injuries. Throughout the weekend, BC Highway Patrol and Sea to Sky RCMP officers were diligently conducting highway patrols and enforcement for road safety.
"Long weekends typically bring an influx of travelers to our region, and this past weekend was no exception," said Sgt. Dallas Langley of the Sea to Sky RCMP- Squamish. "We saw a substantial increase in traffic, and unfortunately, this also led to multiple collisions, most of which were preventable."
The Sea to Sky RCMP- Squamish reminds all drivers to prioritize road safety by adhering to speed limits, maintaining a safe following distance, and avoiding distractions such as mobile devices. Patience is key, especially when navigating the busy Sea to Sky Highway, which often experiences congestion during peak travel times.
"We're grateful that no serious injuries occurred, but these incidents serve as an important reminder for everyone to remain vigilant and cautious while on the road," added Sgt. Dallas Langley. "Your safety and the safety of others depend on it."
The Sea to Sky RCMP will continue to monitor traffic conditions and enforce road safety measures throughout the region. Motorists are encouraged to plan their routes ahead of time, allow for extra travel time, and be prepared for possible delays.
