Comox Valley

The Comox Valley RCMP would like to address recent circulating rumours of the threat of school violence. While we understand that concerns about safety are paramount, we want to provide clarity on the situation to avoid unnecessary fear and confusion within the community.
The only substantiated report was an incident that occurred last week when the Comox Valley RCMP received a report that a person was headed to a school with a weapon. The suspect involved in that event was arrested quickly after the report was received and no weapon was located.
The safety of our schools is our highest priority, and we are closely monitoring the situation.
Should the suspect get released from custody, they will be subject to strict bail conditions and will remain under close supervision in the community.
Unfortunately, rumors have continued to spread, particularly on social media, creating heightened anxiety. We urge the community to stop circulating unverified information. While it is natural for rumors to grow, it’s important to recognize that this is much like a game of telephone—where details become increasingly distorted as they are passed along. These rumors are not helpful and serve only to inflame fear.

If you have witnessed any recent incidents or have credible information, we strongly encourage you to report it to the police immediately. Rest assured, all new reports will be thoroughly investigated. Let’s come together to safeguard our community by halting the spread of misinformation and reporting any threats directly to the police with supporting evidence.
Anyone with information can call the Comox Valley RCMP at (250) 338-1321. If you wish to remain anonymous, please contact Comox Valley Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477).
