Downtown disturbance

A disturbance of two males yelling in front of businesses located on the 200 block of City Centre was reported to the Kitimat RCMP on June 26th at 8:32 pm. The investigating officers attended and located the males. It was found that they were in fact only arguing and nothing physical had occurred. One male was thought to have a knife, but this was found not to be true. The parties went their separate ways with no charges. (2025-2172)

Bike stop results in illegal cigarettes and drug seizure

On June 28th at 10:20 pm, a Kitimat RCMP officer on routine patrol in the down town Kitimat City area noticed a motorized scooter being operated by a male rider without a helmet on. A traffic stop was conducted and the male was spoken to about helmet laws. While speaking to the male, a pack of illegal, unstamped cigarettes was noticed. The male was arrested and it was found that he not only had the illegal cigarettes on him, but a quantity of suspected drugs, consistent with drug dealing was located as well. The male was released without charge, however the investigation into possession for the purpose of trafficking is ongoing. (2025-2191)

No tail lights leads to IRP

While on routine patrol on June 29st at 12:55 am, a Kitimat RCMP officer. A traffic stop was conducted and the officer began an impaired operation of a motor vehicle investigation. The driver provided two samples of breath into roadside screening devices, which resulted in a FAIL reading. The driver was issued a 90-day immediate roadside driving prohibition and the vehicle was impounded for 30 days. (2025-2101)

No Injuries in single vehicle collision

The Kitimat RCMP were advised of a single vehicle collision that occurred in the Strawberry Meadows neighbourhood on June 29th at 12:04 pm. The vehicle had driven off the roadway into the ditch, causing it to roll over. Luckily the driver and passengers were not injured. The driver was issued a violation ticket for driving contrary to restrictions, (2025-2194)

Pedestrian check wellbeing

On June 30th at 11:30 pm, a Kitimat RCMP officer was making patrols along Kuldo Blvd near Columbia Ave and found a male that was laying on the ground. It was found that the male was intoxicated and had fallen. The officer requested emergency health services to attend and the male was uninjured. Family members were located and the male went home with them for the night, without charge. (2025-2207)

Canada Day celebrations report

The Kitimat RCMP are pleased to report that the Canada Day long weekend generated very few files for the local detachment. During the concert at Riverlodge, there was only one file generated to assist in locating a missing child after the fireworks. Luckily, they were located by the family very quickly after wandering off. The Kitimat RCMP officers also assisted with ensuring the flow of traffic did not cause major issues at the end of the evening. One intoxicated male was aided at the end of the event. There were no files generated or issues reported during the July 1st Parade and Riverlodge events. Several locals and visitors came over to visit and get photos with Cst Poelzer and Brisk, the RCMP officer and horse that lead the parade this year. A lot of photos were taken of the Red Serge clad Mounties in attendance as well. The Kitimat RCMP would like to thank Bob, Brisk’s owner, for allowing us to have Brisk join our troop and a thank you to the Army Cadets that ensured the roadway stayed clean behind Brisk.
