The West Shore RCMP Traffic Unit was busy last week (August 13-20), with a variety of traffic investigations.
On Tuesday August 15, the Traffic Unit caught 9 drivers with no insurance. That brings the total to 58 uninsured vehicles caught by West Shore RCMP Traffic Unit this month alone. In July, the unit caught 65 uninsured drivers.
On Wednesday August 16, the Traffic Unit responded to a single vehicle rollover near the 100 block of Finlayson Arm Rd, Langford. The driver was suspected to be impaired by alcohol and attempted to leave the scene. The driver was detained by police and provided a breath sample which indicated presence of alcohol in their body. The driver was issued a 3-day driving suspension, 3-day vehicle impoundment and an order to remove their vehicle from the roadway as it was structurally unsound. The driver attended the hospital and received treatment for minor injuries related to the collision.
On Thursday, August 17, West Shore RCMP received upwards of 11 calls from different complainants about a green 2004 F250 truck driving erratically and into oncoming traffic on Island Highway through View Royal and Colwood. The vehicle eventually crashed into an unoccupied parked vehicle on Aldeane Ave, pictured below:
The 53-year-old male driver was displaying signs of drug impairment and was arrested for impaired driving. Police also seized drugs suspected to be Cocaine from the vehicle. The driver was brought to the hospital for treatment. Police are continuing to investigate the multiple offences and charges against the driver are expected to be forthcoming including; Impaired Driving, Dangerous Operation of a Motor Vehicle and Possession of a Controlled Substance.
