Dossier nº Grand Forks RCMP 2024

The Cops for Kids Tour is coming through Grand Forks on Saturday, September 7 at 5 PM and are inviting the community to welcome them to town. People are asked to either line Central Avenue as they come in from Greenwood or attend the detachment front parking lot where there will be short presentations and everyone is welcomed to meet and talk with the riders.

Cops for Kids was formed in 2001 by a group of businesspeople and members of the RCMP South East District to assist local children. Cops for Kids is a way for the members of the RCMP and other law enforcement officials to interact and provide real assistance and support within the communities where they live and serve. Since its inception, the Tour has raised over $6.5 million for kids. This translates to over 3,000 kids being helped.

The 2024 Cops for Kids Ride will take place September 6 to 15 across South Eastern BC where each rider will endure 10 days of biking. The Tour will start in Kelowna on September 6 where they will make various stops during each day before making their final destination for the night. The Tour will end September 15 back in Kelowna.

The 2024 ride team consists of 19 riders and 8 support crew members. The team is comprised of RCMP members, BC Sheriffs Service, and Okanagan Correctional Center Officers.

"This is an incredible task taking on by the riders to fund raise throughout the year and then to endure 10 days of some serious biking," stated Detachment Commander Sergeant Darryl Peppler. "I encourage the community to come out and meet these riders and hear their stories about what has inspired them to take part in the Ride."
