As warmer weather arrives in the Bulkley Valley, the Smithers RCMP detachment is stepping up its presence on the streets with an increase in foot patrols. The Detachment Leadership Team, alongside the Town of Smithers Community Safety Officer, kicked off the season with a foot patrol together, emphasizing the RCMP’s commitment to community safety and engagement.
With the arrival of spring, officers will be increasing their visibility and direct interaction with the public, providing a reassuring presence in key areas throughout the town. The increase in foot patrols aligns with our continued efforts to build stronger relationships with the community and address safety concerns directly.
Sgt. Ryan Law of the Smithers Detachment shared, "foot patrols allow us to engage directly with the community, offering a level of accessibility that vehicle patrols cannot provide. This increased presence not only helps us address safety concerns and enforce laws but also plays a key role in crime prevention."
S/Sgt. Mark Smaill, Detachment Commander, added, public safety and crime prevention go hand-in-hand. Our foot patrols provide an opportunity to interact directly with the community and listen to their concerns. With the warmer weather bringing more people outdoors, it’s essential that we remain visible and proactive in ensuring a safe environmet for everyone.
