On July 23, 2024 at approximately 8:00am, Port Alberni received a report of an erratic driver on River Rd near Golden St.
The driver of a grey Dodge 1500 pick-up truck moved into the oncoming lane nearly colliding with two vehicles travelling in the opposite direction. If not for the split-second maneuvers of these two vehicles the suspect truck would have struck them head on at high speed.
Dashcam footage was provide to police by a witness that captures the event. Due to the speed of the truck and sunlight glare the license plate of the offending vehicle is partially obscured.
"The dashcam footage is appalling but sadly not an isolated incident in our community. This reckless and dangerous driving behaviour is inexcusable", said Cst. Jordan Fleurissaint.
Port Alberni RCMP are requesting the public’s assistance to identify the truck and driver. The suspect truck is described as an older model grey Dodge 1500 with matching canopy and has chrome rims, running boards, grill, front and rear bumper.
