File # 2025-2087
On Monday, May 26, 2025, at 3:31 p.m. frontline Trail and Greater District RCMP, Castlegar RCMP, and BC Highway Patrol officers responded to report of a fatal motor vehicle incident on Highway 22 and Birchbank Station Road, near Trail, BC.
A 64-year-old Castlegar man was travelling southbound on a motorcycle when he allegedly failed to notice a vehicle braking in front of him. He crashed into the rear of the vehicle while it was still in motion. The first vehicle collision caused him and his motorcycle to cross over the painted highway dividing line and into the northbound lane. The man and his motorcycle struck two northbound vehicles before coming to rest.
The 64-year-old Castlegar man was believed to have died instantly. No one else involved in the motor vehicle incident was believed to be hurt in the collisions.
Highway 22 remained closed for approximately three hours until an investigation could be completed by attending officers.
The matter remains under investigation; however, no charges are expected at this time.
We remind everyone that summer is here, and our highways are much busier with traffic. Please drive sober, defensively and undistracted. Police patrols will be active all summer in an effort to keep our roads and highways safer for the motoring public, says Sgt. Wicentowich.
