The Kitimat RCMP received a call about a backpack of groceries that appeared to be left behind on August 29th at approximately 11:50 am. It was reported that as the complainant left a business located on the 100 block of City Centre, they noticed a bag of groceries appeared to have been set down beside their vehicle and forgotten. The investing officer attended the business to ensure the items were not stolen and it appeared they had not been. The business held onto the items in case the owner returned for them. (2024-3151)
On August 30th, four Kitimat RCMP officers attended and participated in the Overdose Awareness Walk to show support for the families of the persons who have lost their lives due to overdose. Two officers took advantage of the stations set up and were trained in the use of naloxone that is administered by needle, which is different then the naloxone that is carried by every officer as a part of their kit.
A found iPhone was turned into the Kitimat RCMP detachment on August 31st. The phone was reported to have been found at a location described as the Spruce Tree Pumphouse near Dyke road. The phone appears to be an iPhone 11. If you are missing your phone and able to describe / unlock this one, it would be great to have it returned to the owner. (2024-3181)
On September 2nd, Kitimat RCMP officers attended a local marina and conducted vessel safety checks as people were preparing to head out to enjoy their time on the water. Several safety deficiencies were identified, including no registration, a discharged fire extinguisher, and no hull identification number. Several flotation devices were also noted to be nearing their expiry date. The Kitimat RCMP would like to remind everyone, it is imperative to have your boat and safety devices in top order as you head out on the water for the day. We want everyone to have fun, but be safe.
A car window was reported broken to the Kitimat RCMP on September 3rd, 2024. The vehicle was parked overnight on the 1200 block of Kingfisher, and when leaving for work in the morning, the owner located the broken passenger side window. There was nothing reported missing from the vehicle. Attempts to locate CCTV footage in the area were negative. A file number was provided for insurance purposes. (2024-3219)
The manner a vehicle was being operated along highway 37 caught the attention of another motorist who became concerned. The motorist contacted the Kitimat RCMP, explained what they had witnessed and was able to provide a description of the vehicle, including a license plate number. With the information provided, the responding officer was able to locate the vehicle. The driver was checked and stated they were just a little tired, and apologized if they cause concern for someone. It was confirmed that there was no intoxication involved. All drivers are reminded to pull over if you feel a little tired, it only takes a second for something to happen while driving if you are unable to pay full attention to the roadway. (2024-3240)
With the first week of school about to finish, the Kitimat RCMP would like to remind motorists and pedestrians alike that areas around schools will be much busier. The 30 km/h school zones speed limits are in effect from 8:00 am to 5:00 pm on school days. Motorists, please watch out for kids heading to and from school and parents please remind your children to watch out for vehicles. The Kitimat RCMP officers conduct several patrols through school zones each day, not only ensuring that vehicles are obeying the posted speed limits, but also watching that the children are riding their bikes and those walking are crossing at crosswalks and being safe.
