West Shore

On November 29, students from Belmont Secondary School were invited aboard West Shore RCMP's 35-foot Pacific Dancer Canoe named TL’Ches Spirit. The TL’Ches Spirit boasts traditional Indigenous artwork and is used by the West Shore RCMP Indigenous and Community Policing Unit’s for community and cultural events.
Our TL’Ches Spirit Canoe Program runs year-round (weather dependant), said Cst. Mark Hall, West Shore RCMP Community Policing Officer. We were very excited to welcome the students aboard who learned about the history of the canoe, it's connection to the land and, took away some new paddling skills.

The students were all apart of the outdoor education class at Belmont School. Our Community Policing officers have completed Paddle Canada-Big Canoe Leader training which allows them to safely steer a big canoe, lead a crew of paddlers, plan canoe trips while exercising proper safety techniques.
West Shore RCMP live, work, and play on the Traditional Territories of the Lekwungen speaking people, the Songhees and Esquimalt First Nations.
