Around noon on October 17, two males were reportedly high on drugs and in possession of a handgun in a parking lot on Logan Avenue. Police quickly responded and located the two males, passed out with what appeared to be a handgun lying nearby. Upon further examination, the gun was determined to be a BB gun. Both males were awoken and one of them confirmed it was his, and relinquished it to police. He was warned about the implications of having an imitation firearm in a public place.
On October 17, Mission RCMP executed a Search Warrant at a residence in Maple Ridge, after an investigation that commenced in Mission led officers to the house. The Lower Mainland Integrated Emergency Response Team assisted with the search warrant, which resulted in the seizure of a handgun, a large amount of illicit drugs packaged and ready for sale, and a large sum of cash. Charges are being recommended.
On the evening of October 19, police were called about a disturbance ongoing aboard a BC Transit bus in Mission. An intoxicated male aboard the bus began fighting with other passengers, then tried to grab the steering wheel while the bus was in motion. Fortunately the driver was able to pull over and get the male off the bus. He was still outside screaming at the bus when officers arrived. The male was arrested and held in custody to sober. Charges are being recommended.
Shortly before 4 pm on October 20, a witness reported that she heard a collision in the area of Melburn Drive and Topper Drive, then saw a vehicle flee at a high rate of speed, after hitting a parked car. Police located the suspect vehicle a few blocks away. The 29-year-old male driver was detained for an impaired driving investigation, and provided breath samples twice the legal limit. A large quantity of marihuana was also located in the car. A 90-day driving prohibition was served to the driver, and criminal charges are being recommended.
Mission RCMP responded to a report of a suspicious vehicle parked near Nelson Street and Silverdale Avenue on October 21, after a passerby noticed the vehicle and thought it may have been in a collision. Police determined that the vehicle owner had reported the vehicle stolen earlier in the day, alleging that it had been taken at gun-point; however, after further investigation by officers from the Ridge Meadows detachment, the owner advised that he had in fact made up the story, and that he had panicked after crashing the car himself. The public should be aware that there is a criminal offence called Public Mischief, which is when someone intentionally makes a false report to police, and that there are various investigative avenues which police use in order to determine whether or not a stolen vehicle report is truthful. When a suspicious stolen vehicle report is received, it’s not uncommon for the owner to quickly retract their request to report their vehicle stolen when they learn of the potential implications of a false report.
