Intoxicated in public

At approximately 4:52 pm on May 1st, the Kitimat RCMP was dispatched to an intoxicated male on the 800 block of E. Columbia Avenue, at a local school. The investigating officer attended and located the suspect. The male was arrested for causing a disturbance by being intoxicated in public and put up a struggle during the arrest. The officer was able to complete the arrest with the assistance of a civilian just before back up arrived. The suspect was transported to the Kitimat RCMP detachment cells. An investigation into if the male had interacted with any children was done with the assistance of witnesses and CCTV review. It was found the male had no interactions with anyone until the police officer arrived. Once able to care for himself, the male was released without charge the following day (2025-1466)

ATV’s on highway

While on routine patrols along Highway 37 on May 3rd at 5:28 pm, a Kitimat RCMP officer located three side by sides being operated on the highway. The officer attempted a traffic stop; however, the vehicles did not stop as directed. The Kitimat RCMP would like to remind recreational vehicle operators that they must have their vehicles registered with a visible plate and they must not be operated on highways or walkways. The operator can be subject to fines and possible vehicle impoundment when stopped. (2025-1495)

Driving prohibition served

On May 4th at 10:25 pm, a Kitimat RCMP officer conducted a traffic stop in the Nechako Neighbourhood after running checks on a vehicle travelling along Haisla Blvd. During the traffic stop, it was found that the drivers license had been cancelled, after they failed to produce the correct identification, the driver was served a notice of driving prohibition under section 251(1) if the BC Motor Vehicle Act. The vehicle was also impounded. (2025-1505)

Possible impaired driver

A report of a possible impaired driver leaving a parking lot near highway 37 and Forest Ave was reported to the Kitimat RCMP on May 5th. The report was made after a vehicle had almost been involved in a collision. A description of the vehicle was provided including a license plate number. The vehicle was located and the driver reported hearing someone yelling, but was not sure why. The driver provided a sample of their breath and it was found that they were not intoxicated. (2025-1518)

No insurance leads to IRP

At approximately 9:10 pm on May 6th, a traffic stop was conducted with a vehicle that had been located being driving in the Whitesail neighbourhood that had expired insurance. During the traffic stop, the driver provided a sample of their breath into an approved screening device and it resulted in a ‘WARN’ reading. As a result, the driver was served a 3-day immediate roadside driving prohibition. The driver also received a violation ticket for insurance and the vehicle was towed. (2025-1540)
