Police seek witnesses after child clipped by vehicle in close call

On Monday, October 21, 2024 at approximately 8:15 am, a child was crossing highway 16 on a walk signal and was clipped by a dark, older model pickup truck. The truck made a left turn onto the highway from Toronto Street and the driver’s side mirror clipped the child’s backpack, causing her to spin her around. 

Drivers are asked to stay attentive and focused on the road at all times. A split second distraction can lead to serious consequences on the road. said Sgt. Ryan Law Smithers RCMP.

Anyone who witnessed the incident is asked to call the Smithers RCMP at (250) 847-3233.
