Investment Fraud costs a local resident thousands of dollars
On November 9th, 2023 Powell River RCMP received a report from a local resident that they were a victim of investment fraud. The investigation discovered that a company named Be the Bank convinced the victim to invest in their product. When the female agent walked the victim through the process she was given access to the victim’s computer. Once that was completed the agent continued to contact the victim to aggressively solicit more money. It was at this point that the victim discovered their bank account had been accessed and more money had been withdrawn. The victim contacted the agent who advised they would need to deposit further funds to access the investment. Police are cautioning everyone about providing anyone access to their computer and online banking. Credible Investment firms do not require access to your computer. Do your research, investments quoting unrealistic returns should be a red flag, be extra vigilant. Remember if it is too good to be true, it normally is.
