Fire behind elementary school deemed suspicious

A New Year’s Eve fire behind an elementary school is deemed suspicious. Police are looking for witnesses.

On December 31, 2024, at approximately 10:00 PM, the North Cowichan/Duncan RCMP received a report of a structure fire at the back of Alexander Elementary School, located at 2471 Beverly Street in North Cowichan. The affected building was unoccupied at the time of the fire.

The fire is currently considered suspicious and police are seeking surveillance video and dash camera footage in the area around the time of the report.
