Comox Valley

The Comox Valley RCMP, in proud partnership with Comox Valley Schools, recently wrapped up the 15th RCMP Mountie Camp at HMCS Quadra, marking another successful chapter in a program that was the first RCMP youth camp of its kind in Canada.
Over an intensive six-day experience, high school students from across the district stepped into the world of policing, gaining hands-on exposure to law enforcement practices, specialized units, and the core values of the RCMP. From learning about the history of the Force and the Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms, to working through realistic scenarios, participants embraced the challenge with enthusiasm and dedication.
Watching these students challenge themselves throughout the week is truly inspiring, said Cst. Monika Terragni of the Comox Valley RCMP. They typically arrive a bit unsure, and by the end they leave with newfound confidence, teamwork skills, and a real sense of what it means to serve their communities.

Throughout the week, participants took part in structured activities that mirrored elements of RCMP Depot training in Regina, Saskatchewan—complete with daily inspections, drill instruction, and fitness training and testing. Highlights included sessions on forensics, police dog services, crisis negotiation, major crime investigations, crime analysis, RCMP Air Services, explosives disposal, and even a nighttime exercise where students responded to staged incidents with RCMP officers in real-time.
Established in 1996, the Comox Valley RCMP Mountie Camp was the first RCMP youth camp in the country, and has since welcomed over 700 students. It continues to foster values such as leadership, public service, and discipline while opening students’ eyes to potential career paths within law enforcement and beyond.
The 2025 RCMP Mountie Camp was made possible through student registration fees and the generous support of community partners. The Comox Valley RCMP extends its sincere thanks to Comox Valley Crimestoppers, Courtenay Rotary, Comox Valley Volkswagen, Cumberland Legion, Comox Valley Airport Commission, Ron Hunchiak, Thrifty Foods (Crown Isle), and Quality Foods in Courtenay.
The next RCMP Mountie Camp is scheduled for spring 2027, and applications will open through Comox Valley Schools closer to that date.
