Terrace RCMP successfully obtained a significant amount of funding from the Provincial Government for overtime shifts, specifically for proactive patrols in targeted hot spot crime areas in Terrace. This funding is provided through the Government of BC’s Community Safety and Targeted Enforcement Program (C-STEP).
In 2024, a grant was received from the Special Investigation and Targeted Enforcement (SITE) program. These funds were similarly used for additional overtime shifts for proactive patrols in 2024. Officers on patrol received positive feedback from the community indicating that they felt the increase of police presence and a safer feeling within the community. Thanks to the positive outcome of the SITE program, Terrace RCMP were able to make successful application for the C-STEP funding for 2025.
This C-STEP funding will provide an increase to downtown proactive patrols by officers, either on foot or bicycle. The objective of these additional patrols will be to provide consistent, enhanced, proactive and highly visible police presence by various modes of travel to suppress and prevent violent criminal activity.
Members of Terrace can expect to see an increased police presence from June 27 through to October 18.
