On February 27th, 2024, in less than three hours, BC Highway Patrol – Cranbrook targeted almost 200 drivers for violating some or all of the ‘Slow Down, Move Over’ legislation on Highway 3/95. All of the drivers were issued a warning in the form of an educational pamphlet.

The intent of the ‘Slow Down, Move Over’ law is to protect roadside workers. From 2008 to 2017, 230 workers were hit by motor vehicles and 12 of those workers passed away. The nearly 200 motorists each could have received a $173 violation ticket for failing to slow down and move over for roadside workers that day.

We are asking drivers to ‘slow down and move over’ to make our highways safer for emergency responders and roadside workers.
