Collision involving police vehicles at Fairy Creek Watershed area

Lake Cowichan

2021-11-09 13:27 PST

On November 9, 2021 shortly after 8 a.m., officers with the Community-Industry Response Group (C-IRG) were traveling southbound along the Pacific Marine Road to commence their enforcement operations for the day.

As they came around the corner at the 22 kilometre mark coming from Mesachie, a portion of a logging truck traveling in the opposite direction on the Pacific Marine Route struck a police vehicle, causing it to lose its load of logs which in turn struck a second police vehicle.

Three police officers were transported out of the area and taken to local hospital for assessment of what appeared to be non-life threatening injuries.

A Collision Analyst and Commercial Vehicle Safety and Enforcement are on their way to the scene to conduct an investigation under the Motor Vehicle Act.

The portion of the forestry road is currently closed in both directions for an undetermined length of time, and will re-open once the investigation is concluded, and cleared.

The Lake Cowichan RCMP are asking anyone traveling in the area to use alternate routes, and avoid the Pacific Marine Route for the time being.
