On April 24, 2025, 45-year-old Amir Atefat was sentenced in relation to two West Shore RCMP investigations.
The first investigation began on May 22, 2024, when West Shore RCMP received a report of fraud at Home Depot located in Langford (2400 Millstream Rd). Two male suspects were reported to have entered the store, gathered merchandise off the shelves, and then returned the items for their full value. One suspect left the store prior to police arrival and was not located. Mr. Atefat was identified as the second suspect via CCTV footage and arrested by police as he exited the store. On April 24, 2025, Mr. Atefat entered a guilty plea to false pretence. The court imposed a suspended sentence, with a probation order for a term of 12 months, and a forfeiture order in relation to the $360 cash that was seized from his person at the time of his arrest.
The second investigation took place on September 12, 2024. Officers from both the West Shore RCMP Crime Reduction Unit and the Drugs & Organized Crime Unit arrested two suspects, one of which was identified as Amir Atefat. Officers conducted covert surveillance on the suspects as they attended at multiple stores throughout the Capital Regional District. Mr. Atefat pled guilty to stealing several items from Home Depot and London Drugs.
The pair was followed throughout the Capital Regional District and arrested by West Shore RCMP outside a business in Duncan. Subsequent to the arrests, police searched Mr. Atefat’s vehicle and recovered thousands of dollars worth of stolen merchandise.
On April 24, 2025, Mr. Atefat entered a guilty plea to two counts of theft under $5000. The court imposed a conditional sentence (which is a custodial sentence to be served in the community) for 90 days, followed by a probation order for 18 months. As part of his court ordered conditions, Mr. Atefat must not be on Vancouver Island without the written permission of his probation officer, and must not attend at any Home Depot, London Drugs, or Best Buy store in the province of BC.
