A man was taken to hospital for assessment and care, following a large police presence on 1st Avenue this morning.
On Tuesday April 8, the Kamloops RCMP Detachment’s Integrated Crisis Response Team received a request to check the wellbeing of a man who appeared to be experiencing a mental health crisis. In consideration of the information received and the high-risk presented, a number of officers attended the area of St. Paul Street West around 11 a.m., and attempted to converse with the person.
Based the situation and risk-assessment, a conductive-energy device was effectively deployed and officers were able to safely apprehend the man under the Mental Health Act, said Corporal Crystal Evelyn, Kamloops RCMP spokesperson.

He was immediately taken to the hospital for medical assessment and care. No charges are being recommended.
