On Sunday, June 15, 2025 at 4:49 am, Dawson Creek RCMP received a report of a break and enter.

Police were told that a man had allegedly broken into a home of someone known to him, and crashed into the homeowner’s vehicle before fleeing the scene. It was reported that the man may be in possession of a firearm, although no shots had been fired.

The suspect was seen driving away however fled after police attempted to stop the vehicle. With public safety being a top priority, police did not pursue the vehicle but were able to track the vehicle and it was located crashed in a ditch on Highway 52 however the suspect was not with the vehicle. Police used a drone to confirm the suspect was not in vehicle.

The suspect threatened self-harm and indicated that he had a firearm in his possession. North District Emergency Response Team (ND ERT) along with M Division ERT were called to Dawson Creek. BC Highway Patrol attended with drone support as well as Air 3 to assist in the search for the possibly armed suspect.

Police were able to narrow the search to an area where the suspect could possibly be. At 4:20 pm, ERT along with Police Dog Services (PDS) located and arrested the suspect, without further incident, in the 17000 Block of 211 Road. During the arrest police did not locate a firearm. The suspect remains in police custody.

Highway 52 was closed to all traffic for most of the day and was opened at 4:30 pm. The closure impacted BC Wild Fire who were unable to access the Kelly Lake Fire. They were immediately notified when the highway was reopened and were able to send the crews back to Kelly Lake.
