Victim severely assaulted: suspect in custody

On Thursday August 1, 2024 Campbell River RCMP responded to a 911 call of a woman reportedly being assaulted in the community of Campbell River, BC.

Upon arrival police located a 44-year-old woman who had been severely assaulted within her residence. She was rushed to hospital with life-threatening injuries. At scene, police arrested a 24-year-old man in connection to the attack and was held in custody in order to make his first court appearance the next day on August 2, 2024. Both the victim and the man are known to each other.

The accused, identified as Maitland Campbell, was held in custody and is scheduled to appear in court again on August 9th, 2024. He has been charged with:

Campbell River RCMP Major Crime Unit has conduct of the file and continue their investigation into the matter. While this matter is before the courts, no further details will be released at this time.
