Help protect yourself from potential identity theft

Williams Lake

2023-12-07 13:24 PST

File # 2023-9641

Williams Lake RCMP have seen an uptick in reports of suspicious activity with some delivery services that appear to be limited to private couriers.

It has been reported that delivery companies are asking to take photographs of identification before delivering orders. We recognize that identification may need to be presented to prove name and address, but photographs should not be taken.

While there have not been reports of identity theft directly related to this, we want people to be aware in order to mitigate the chance of becoming a victim.

If you find yourself in a similar situation, where a parcel delivery service provider asks to take a picture of your personal identification, call the police for assistance, said S/Sgt Brad McKinnon, Operations NCO Williams Lake RCMP.
