Found and returned property

A wallet that was found at a bus stop on the 200 block of City Centre on January 15th was turned into the Kitimat RCMP detachment on January 16th. The investigating officer was able to identify the owner of the wallet and made attempts to locate them. The owner was able to attend the detachment on January 17th and retrieve their property. Identity fraud

On January 17th, a possible victim of identify fraud attended the Kitimat RCMP detachment for assistance. It was reported that the victim had attempted to get a loan, however was surprised to find that it was denied due to an outstanding unpaid bill. It appears as though the victims name, date of birth and an old address had been used to open an account that caused a bill to be run up and left unpaid. The investigation into this matter is ongoing. (2025-215)

Serve notice of prohibited driving

While on routine patrol and conducting traffic enforcement on January 18th, a Kitimat RCMP officer located a vehicle possibly being operated by a driver that was required to be served a driving prohibition. A traffic stop was initiated and the identification of the driver was confirmed. The driver was provided the required paperwork and was allowed to leave the scene using a temporary license. Found items

At 5:04 pm on January 19th, a Kitimat RCMP officer was provided a bag of clothing and other items that had been located on the 800 block of Columbia Ave. The bag had been seen along the bush line earlier in the day, but when it was still there at dinner time, the person who noticed it turned it into the police. The bag contents did not have anything inside that the investigating officer could use to identify the owner. If you are missing this bag and items, or know who is, please contact the Kitimat RCMP and identify the bag to have it returned. (2025-240)

Early morning disturbance

A disturbance that was occurring in the Whitesail neighbourhood was reported to the Kitimat RCMP at 1:12 am on January 20th. The complainant was woken up by a dog barking and a person screaming and waving their hands. The investigating officer responded, however was unable to locate anyone in the area. (2025-242)

Disturbance leads to charges

On January 21st at approximately 8:30 pm, the Kitimat RCMP were called to a residence in the Whitesail neighbourhood for a disturbance. As the investigating officers arrived, they went to arrest a male. The male attempted to fight with officers, but was taken into custody after a short scuffle. The male was held in custody overnight and released the next morning on conditions and with a court date to attend Kitimat Court on a future date to answer to the charges of assault and assault a peace officer. Mischief to own property

The Kitimat RCMP were called to a business on the 200 block of City Centre on January 22nd for a disturbance and they were advised that something was being destroyed. The investigating officer attended and found that an unknown angry customer had left. The investigation revealed that the customer had come in as a product they had purchased a few months earlier was not working. The item could not be returned and there was no warranty but a replacement part was offered for purchase. The replacement part was not guaranteed to work but the customer purchased it to try and left. The customer returned a short period of time later, angry that the replacement part would not work and when the employee offered a discount for another item to try and make the product work, the customer got even angrier, destroyed the item they bought and left the business. No other damages were reported. (2025-271)
