On May 11, 2024 Powell River RCMP received a report that racist and violent graffiti had been found on a school building at James Thompson Elementary. On May 9, 2024, police had received a report of similar graffiti that had been found in the lobby elevator, just outside the Powell River Public Library.
Police are asking anyone with any information about this to please contact the Powell River RCMP at 604-485-6255.
On May 14, 2024, police conducted a traffic stop at Mowat Bay Boat launch with a vehicle that had an inactive front licence plate and a dealer demonstration plate affixed to the back.
Upon speaking with the driver, police observed signs of alcohol impairment. Police obtained a breath sample on an approved screening device which registered a fail. The driver also had a cancelled driver’s licence.

The driver was issued an immediate driving prohibition, was issued violation tickets for misuse of a dealer plate and no driver’s licence and the vehicle was impounded under the Motor Vehicle Act.
On May 14, at approximately 11:00 am, Powell River RCMP received a report from both Marks Work Warehouse and Staples that a male had stolen items from the store and then fled on foot.
Police conducted patrols and located the suspect nearby. The male was arrested for theft under $5000 and released to appear in Provincial Court. All stolen items were returned to the stores.
