Fatal motor vehicle collision

Lake Cowichan, North Cowichan/Duncan

2024-05-21 13:30 PDT

File # 2024-7483

On May 10th, 2024, at 4:15 p.m., emergency crews responded to a two-vehicle collision on Highway 18th at Hillcrest Road, near Lake Cowichan, BC.

Upon arrival, it was learnt that a Hyundai Sante Fe carrying four occupants had struck a GMC truck. It was apparent that the driver of the GMC truck failed to stop at a stop sign while turning left onto Hillcrest Road. The Sante Fe was unable to stop in time, resulting in the collision.

Sadly, the driver of the truck died from their injuries. Occupants of the Sante Fe suffered serious, non-life-threatening injuries.

The investigation so far does not suggest that substances were a contributing factor.

The investigation is currently continuing.
