Kamloops Mounties are turning down the heat for a cause close to their hearts, by plunging into the polar temperatures of the Thompson River next week.
On Tuesday Feb. 25, 2025, at 10 a.m., in Riverside Park, members of the Kamloops RCMP, Commercial Vehicle Safety and Enforcement, Community Service Officer Program, Natural Resources, and other local supporters will brave the icy waters during the annual Polar Plunge to raise money and awareness for the Special Olympics BC.
Helping to coordinate this year’s efforts is rookie police constable Lucas Nicoletti-Carriere. Formerly of Langley, the new constable joined the Kamloops RCMP Detachment’s frontline in November, straight out of Depot. It didn’t take long for his co-workers and Special Olympic supporters to convince him to jump into the river – for a good cause of course.
I don’t like the cold but I think bringing awareness and showing my willingness to support Special Olympians through the Polar Plunge is definitely worth it, said Cst. Nicoletti-Carriere.

Although this is his first time participating in the plunge, Cst. Nicoletti-Carriere is a big fan of the Special Olympics. His sister is neuro-diverse and enjoys swimming, creating a more personal connection between him and this year’s event.
I know the importance of engagement and having the same opportunities available for everyone, added Cst. Nicoletti-Carriere.

With the help of his senior police officers, Cst. Nicoletti-Carriere will be continuing to put positive peer pressure on his co-workers to show their courage or support and join him at next week’s event.
