West Shore
2024-02-15 07:15 PST
Earlier this month West Shore RCMP hosted the Mountie Cup, a senior girls basketball tournament held at Royal Bay and Belmont Secondary schools. The tournament is focused on highlighting and supporting girls in sports.
The opening ceremonies kicked off with a presentation from West Shore RCMP officers speaking on their policing experience and, Police Dog Handlers Cst. Hough and Cst. George with their Police Dogs Luthor and Porter.
The tournament consisted of 16 teams split into Tier 1 and Tier 2 groups. We thank the teams who travelled from all over Vancouver Island to participate in this tournament and thank School District 62 for providing the venues and school support.
A big congratulations to our Tier 1 and Tier 2 winners:

The videos then show the RCMP players lounge, where teams and coaches are getting their food. There is then a series of photos show cased depicting the tournament games and RCMP booths set up.
This tournament provides a fun environment for West Shore RCMP, to interact with students and continue building relationships in the community. We set up information booths with fun games and prizes for all high school students to participate in, says Nancy Saggar West Shore RCMP Media Relations Officer.

A special thank you to all our wonderful sponsors. Local West Shore businesses really showed their support for girls in sports and made this tournament possible. Refreshments, lunch and tournament fees were were covered by donations, making this tournament accessible for all.
