Coquitlam RCMP announce charge approval for firearm offences

Coquitlam RCMP have received charge approval for four counts related to firearms against 23-year-old Tyrel O’Hearn.

On February 4, 2025, the BC Prosecution Service approved four counts of firearm related charges against Tyrel O’Hearn involving:

• Possession of a loaded prohibited or restricted firearm - Section 95(1) of the Criminal Code;
• Occupy a vehicle knowing there was a prohibited firearm - Section 94(1) of the Criminal Code;
• Possession of a firearm knowing its possession is unauthorized - Section 92(1) of the Criminal Code; and
• Store or transport a firearm in a manner contrary to a regulation of the Firearms Act - Section 86(2) of the Criminal Code.

After an extensive investigation by the Coquitlam RCMP Gang Enforcement Team (CGET), multiple charges against Tyrel O’Hearn, were approved, said Media Relations Officer Constable John Graham. CGET conducts proactive uniformed patrols and investigations to ensure our citizens and neighborhoods are safe. The Coquitlam RCMP and our CGET officers’ have a multi-faceted approach to policing which help keep guns and gangs off of our streets and out of our communities.

O’Hearn was released by the courts pending his next appearance on numerous conditions including not to possess weapons.
