On April 3rd, at approximately 1:40 pm, a Kitimat RCMP officer was on routine patrol, driving along Haisla Blvd when they noticed a vehicle that appeared to be traveling at an excessive speed. The police RADAR was activated and showed that he vehicle was travelling at 106 km/h in the posted 60 km/h speed zone. A traffic stop was initiated and the driver received a $368.00 violation ticket for excessive speed. The vehicle was also impounded for 7 days. (2025-1141)
While conducting patrols in the Kitamaat Village on April 4th, a Kitimat RCMP officer ran checks on a vehicle and had found the vehicle to have expired insurance. A traffic stop was conducted and during the stop, it was found that the driver was also prohibited from driving. The driver was arrested for driving while prohibited and release with an appearance notice to attend court on a future date to answer to the charge. The driver was also issued a violation ticket for no insurance and the vehicle was impounded. (2025-1163)
A check well being was called into the Kitimat RCMP at 7:05 am on April 5th. There was a report of a person laying on the sidewalk near the 100 block of City Centre. The investigating Kitimat RCMP officer attended and located the person. It was found the person was intoxicated and may have suffered some minor injuries. The person was transported to a local hospital by EHS to be checked. (2025-1172)
On April 7th at 6:37 pm, the Kitimat RCMP became aware of a vehicle that was possibly being driven by an intoxicated driver. Patrols were conducted and the vehicle was located in the Nechako neighbourhood. The driver was spoken to and an investigation into the impaired operation of a motor vehicle was started. The driver provided a breath sample into a roadside screening device, which resulted in a fail reading. The driver was issued a 90-day immediate roadside driving prohibition and the vehicle was impounded for 30 days. (2025-1197)
The Kitimat RCMP received a complaint of loud music coming from a neighbouring residence in the Nechako neighbourhood on April 8th. It was further reported that the loud music had been ongoing for the entire day, until the report was made at 8:20 pm. The investigating officer attended the residence and spoke with the occupant who agreed to keep the music turned down. The officer reminded the occupant that the Noise bylaw prohibits certain noise at all times in residential areas, including the playing of loud music. On April 9th, the Kitimat RCMP received a compliant from a local resident that their credit card appeared to have been compromised a few months previously, and a sum of money had been withdrawn and it appears it was used for a crypto account. The activity was reported to the victim’s banks fraud section as well. The investigating officer advised the victim to report the incident to the Canadian Anti-fraud Centre. Unfortunately, there was no information available to identify the identification of who would have been responsible of the fraud. The Kitimat RCMP would like to remind you to regularly check your financial accounts and report any suspicious activity to your financial institution as soon as you note anything wrong. You should also regularly check credit report and credit score to ensure there have not been any accounts opened in your name that you are unaware of. (2025-1218)
