On May 30, 2024, at approximately 4:30am, Powell River RCMP responded to an alarm at Suncoast Cycles. Upon arrival, police learned that the business owners had also been alerted to the alarm and had interrupted a break and enter in progress. The owner had confronted the suspect who then allegedly sprayed the owner in the face with bear spray.
The suspect allegedly fled the store with a stolen bike and ran south toward Reave Rd. The suspect was seen leaving the area in a station wagon type vehicle with a second person and a large Sheppard dog with puffy fur.
The bike that was stolen from the store is described as an orange 2023 Giant Talon e-bike.
