A 42-year-old male driver was arrested for multiple offences after crashing into a tractor trailer yesterday morning and is facing approximately $1200 in fines.
On November 20, shortly after 6:30 a.m., West Shore RCMP attended the scene of a collision near the 1900 block of Sooke Rd in Colwood. A white 2015 Toyota Corolla was stuck underneath the trailer of a delivery truck. The driver had exited the vehicle and fled the scene on foot leaving a 30-year-old female passenger behind. The female passenger sustained minor injuries and is expected to recover.
Officers were able to identify the driver who was located nearby and arrested for the following Criminal Code offences;
Additionally, the driver was served a driving prohibition and the vehicle was impounded for 7 days as he was listed as an unlicensed driver. He was also charged under the Motor Vehicle Act for;
The fines under the Motor Vehicle Act total to just over $1200. The driver was released with Motor Vehicle Act tickets as well as an Undertaking with an upcoming court date in February 2024.
This was a serious collision in which the driver and passenger are lucky to be alive as the vehicle was fully trapped underneath a trailer. Traffic was affected in the area as the lanes were shut down for a short period of time while crews worked the scene, said Cpl. Nancy Saggar, West Shore RCMP Media Relations Officer.
