The Vernon North Okanagan RCMP is seeking information from the public after a cyclist was struck by a vehicle on Highway 97 north of Vernon yesterday.

On Monday, May 5th, 2025, around 2:30 p.m., police and emergency personnel responded to report that a cyclist had been hit by a vehicle on Highway 97, near Swan Lake Market and Garden, north of Vernon. The investigation has determined the white Honda Accord was travelling southbound when a man on a bicycle suddenly tried to cross the highway and rode right out in front of the vehicle. The driver was unable to avoid the collision and hit the cyclist who sustained serious injuries and was transported from the scene by BC Emergency Health Services.

The driver of the vehicle remained at the scene and is cooperating with investigators.

Police are asking anyone who was driving on Highway 97 near Swan Lake Market and Garden, between 2pm and 2:30pm on Monday, May 5th, 2025, and has dashcam footage or witnessed the collision, to please contact the Vernon North Okanagan RCMP at (250) 545-7171 and quote file #2025-6741.
